Cut the pork into equal length pieces. Usually people use pork fat to make banh tet, but if you don’t like it, you can replace it with lean meat.
Next, you bring the meat marinated with the following spices: half a teaspoon of seasoning, half a teaspoon of pepper and minced red onion. Wait for 30 minutes for the meat to infuse the flavors.
Spread out the foil, then spread the green beans and flatten. Next, you spread the meat on top of the green beans. Cut the salted egg into 4 parts and then put one part on top of the sticky rice. Then, wrap the green beans and put them in the refrigerator to harden.
Use a blender to grind the spinach and filter the water. Sticky rice you let soak overnight. After that, take out the sticky rice, wait 10 minutes for the sticky rice to dry, and then pour in the water of the vegetables.
Next, add a teaspoon of salt and mix well. Note that you should only mix gently so as not to break the sticky rice. Then, divide the mixed sticky rice into the number of parts corresponding to the mung bean multiplier.
Spread out the foil and arrange banana leaves on top. The purpose of using foil when cooking banh tet is to prevent water from entering the cake. Thanks to this, the cake will be firm, delicious and keep for a long time. The foil also helps retain heat for the cake to help the cake cook quickly. Next, you spread the layer of sticky rice on the banana leaves, spread evenly and then the green bean paste.
Cover another layer of sticky rice on top of the green bean paste and then roll up the banana leaves.
You take the string and tie it horizontally, in the middle of the roll. Then, you gently bend the corner of the cake and then stand it up, add another part of the sticky rice so that the cake is also sticky.
The other end you do the same and then use the banana leaf to cover the two ends of the cake. After tying the cake, you roll it lightly so that the inner folds run evenly.
Put the banh tet in a large pot and bring to a boil lined with a few banana leaves on the bottom of the pot. You proceed to cook the cake with medium heat for 3.5 – 4 hours.
After cooking for half the time, turn back to let the cake cook again. You also need to pay attention to regularly refilling the water, do not let the pot run out of water.
